We are so proud to begin another exciting chapter at The Movement Academy with the announcement of our Ballet Foundations Course!
The launch of this course strengthens our philosophy and defines the vision that we as a business strive for every day; combining classical, artistic and athletic methods in a contemporary, functional setting to provide a safe, effective, intricate and holistic movement practice for our students.
This 6 week course has been designed especially for The Movement Academy and will be taught by the beautiful, talented and highly respected ballet dancer and teacher Donna Mitchell.
Donna began her professional training in England with the Royal Ballet’s Associate Programs and graduated from Elmhurst Ballet School with a 3 year National Diploma in Classical and Contemporary Dance. Having worked with the Birmingham Royal Ballet and Ballet Ireland, Donna explored further dance styles by training in London’s Pineapple Studios. Deciding to broaden her horizons, she travelled throughout Europe in major theatre productions and cruise ships, eventually landing here in Sydney.
Donna will guide adults through an hour each week to discover and practice the foundations of classical ballet technique in a safe, fun and supportive environment.
Students will learn the basic principals of ballet including posture, vocabulary, alignment, articulation of the feet, turn out, plies, sequencing, musicality and positions of the arms and head.
All the while, adopting a greater understanding of movement precision, technique, control and body awareness whilst strengthening their entire architecture, increasing extension and improving balance. Class will be divided between exercises at the barre and work in the centre of the floor.
Ballet shoes and tights are most certainly encouraged, but socks and clothes that show your alignment are absolutely fine.
We are offering a maximum of 8 spaces and no experience is required.
